Music’s role in society is evolving. Thanks to streaming services and social media, music is consumed at a higher rate and with more individual freedom than ever before. Meanwhile, the health and wellbeing sector highlights music’s potential as a powerful therapeutic and salutogenic tool. To help make sense of these recent developments, the Master's Degree Programme in Music and Science at the University of Jyväskylä teaches students to understand the various functions of music in modern everyday life, by examining music through a cognitive, psychological and societal lens.
