The postgraduate program in engineering science (materials) provides an extension to your undergraduate study focusing on the selection, production and behaviour of practical materials used in engineered products.
Materials represents an important component of many technological products and the engineering of materials connects to a variety of research areas including nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical sciences, electrical engineering and civil engineering.
Materials engineers also look closely at materials failure – fracture, corrosion, wear – destructive and non-destructive testing, and are generally interested in solid materials as they are primarily the materials used for manufacture.
Materials engineering involves whole-of-life considerations, including recycling, and generally involves using materials in bulk.
