The Agrostology program at Nanjing Agricultural University is an undergraduate major focused on the science and application of grasses and grassland ecosystems, which are critically important for agriculture, livestock production and environmental sustainability. The curriculum integrates plant biology, ecology, forage science, soil science and grassland management to help students understand the growth characteristics, physiology and ecological roles of grasses used for forage, turf and soil conservation. Students learn about grass species identification and classification, pasture production and utilization, grassland ecology, soil–plant–animal interactions, and sustainable grassland management practices, gaining both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience through fieldwork, lab analysis and cultivation techniques. Graduates are prepared to work in animal husbandry and forage production, grassland conservation and restoration, agricultural extension services, environmental consulting, seed and turf industry sectors, and research institutions, where they contribute to enhancing forage supply, improving grazing systems, protecting grassland environments and supporting sustainable agricultural ecosystems.
