The Bachelor of Arts in Policy Science at Ritsumeikan University’s College of Policy Science is a four-year interdisciplinary undergraduate program that prepares students to analyze, design, and implement effective solutions to real-world public policy challenges by integrating knowledge and methods from across the social sciences. Students admitted into this degree, particularly through the English-taught Community and Regional Policy Studies major, engage in a curriculum that combines broad academic skills and foundational theory in the first years with focused study in one of three specialized tracks—Sustainable Urban Policy, Regional Economy and Development, and Multi-level Governance—during the later years, culminating in advanced seminar work and a graduation thesis or project. Throughout the program, learners develop competencies in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, critical analysis, logical communication, and foreign languages, while addressing issues such as urban development, economic policy, governance structures, and social welfare from both local and global perspectives. The College emphasizes practical problem solving, community engagement, and collaboration with external partners, enabling graduates to pursue careers in public administration, international organizations, NGOs, and roles that demand insightful policy analysis and implementation skills.
