The Master’s in Geophysics at Chengdu University of Technology is a three-year academic graduate program within the College of Geophysics that leads to a Master of Science degree in the primary discipline of Geophysics, offered in both Chinese and English to domestic and international students. The program emphasizes an advanced understanding of the physical processes and properties of the Earth, combining theories and methods from physics with geology, atmospheric and space sciences to study and interpret geophysical fields such as seismic, magnetic, gravity and electromagnetic fields using modern scientific and technological tools, and to address practical challenges in exploration, resource evaluation, environmental assessment and Earth dynamics. Core training includes advanced geophysical theories and techniques such as seismic acquisition and imaging, geophysical logging and reservoir evaluation, rock physics and quantitative interpretation, while students also engage in independent research under faculty supervision across areas like solid geophysics, exploration geophysics, petrophysics, geophysical engineering surveys and space science and technology, culminating in a thesis that contributes new insights or applications in geophysics. Graduates are prepared for careers in research, industry, exploration and environmental sectors, or further doctoral study in geosciences and related fields.
