Physical Geography at Henan University is a core geographic science discipline within the School of Geography and Environmental Studies that focuses on the natural processes and spatial patterns of the Earth’s physical environment. The programme studies how landforms, climate, water, soil, vegetation and ecosystems develop and interact across different regions, combining field observations, laboratory analysis and spatial modelling. Core areas of study include geomorphology (landform processes), climatology and meteorology, hydrology and water resources, biogeography, soil and environmental systems, and quantitative methods in geographic science. Students also learn to use modern tools such as remote sensing, geographic information systems (GIS), spatial data analysis and environmental monitoring technologies to observe, analyse and simulate natural processes. Through integrated coursework, fieldwork and research projects, the programme develops students’ abilities to understand and explain natural environmental changes, environmental hazards, landscape evolution and human–environment interactions, preparing graduates for careers in environmental planning and management, natural resource assessment, GIS and spatial analysis, ecological consulting, disaster risk reduction and geographic research in government, industry and academic settings.
