Traditional Chinese Sports at Henan University (offered as part of the Martial Arts and National Traditional Sports major within the School of Physical Education) is an academic and practice-oriented programme that focuses on the theory, techniques, cultural heritage and practical application of China’s indigenous physical traditions, especially wushu (Chinese martial arts) and other ethnic traditional sports. Rooted in Henan’s rich martial arts culture — including the historical heritage of Shaolin Kungfu and Taijiquan — the programme integrates systematic study of traditional sports theory, physical training, teaching methods, competition skills, health-promoting practices and cultural transmission. Students receive instruction in the basic knowledge and skills of martial arts and traditional sports, learn how to organise training and competitions, and are equipped with competencies for teaching, coaching, research and cultural promotion in school, community and professional settings. The major emphasises both physical proficiency and cultural literacy, preparing graduates to inherit, develop and spread China’s traditional physical culture in education, sports training, fitness guidance and related fields.
NOTE: The university may have additional program-specific eligibility requirements. It is recommended to verify these on the official university website.
