The Chinese Medicine (中药学 / Traditional Chinese Medicine) program at Nanjing Agricultural University is an interdisciplinary undergraduate major that combines the science and practice of traditional Chinese medicine with modern biological and agricultural principles. It is designed to train students with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of medicinal plant biology, pharmacognosy, cultivation and breeding of medicinal resources, quality evaluation, and clinical applications of Chinese herbal medicines. The curriculum integrates courses in drug chemistry, botany, pharmacology, medicinal plant processing and quality control, along with hands-on laboratory practice and fieldwork in medicinal plant cultivation and resource management. Graduates are prepared for careers in research, development, quality assurance, cultivation and sustainable utilization of medicinal plants, as well as roles in medicine manufacturing, traditional medicine industries, regulatory agencies and related scientific fields. The program emphasizes both scientific rigor and traditional knowledge to support innovation and high-quality development in China’s herbal medicine sector.
