The Chinese Medicine program at Nanjing Agricultural University is an interdisciplinary agricultural and life-science discipline that combines plant science, pharmacognosy, chemistry and agronomy to study medicinal plants and the scientific basis of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). It focuses on understanding the biology, cultivation, quality evaluation, processing and safe use of medicinal materials, training students to master both foundational scientific principles and practical skills in areas such as medicinal plant resource evaluation, standardized cultivation, phytochemical analysis, quality control, and the development and management of medicinal materials. The program emphasizes rigorous scientific research and hands-on experience, aiming to develop professionals who can contribute to high-quality raw material supply, safety monitoring and innovation in the Chinese herbal medicine industry, as well as roles in research, quality assurance, production and sustainable utilization of medicinal plants and products. It reflects NAU’s strength in agricultural sciences applied to Chinese medicine production and supports the broader development of safe, effective and sustainable medicinal resources.
