The Pomology program at Nanjing Agricultural University is an agricultural science discipline focused on the biology, cultivation, improvement and management of fruit-bearing plants. It combines foundational botanical sciences with practical horticultural techniques to study areas such as fruit tree physiology, genetics and breeding, propagation methods, nutrient and water management, pest and disease control, post-harvest handling, and orchard ecosystem management. Students learn both the theoretical principles underlying plant growth and development and the practical skills needed to optimize fruit quality, yield, and sustainability in orchard systems. The curriculum integrates classroom instruction with hands-on research, field trials and laboratory work, preparing graduates for careers in fruit crop production, nursery and seedling management, cultivar development, crop consulting, agricultural extension services and research. By blending scientific inquiry with real-world application, the program supports innovation in fruit cultivation and contributes to the development of high-quality, efficient and sustainable fruit production systems.
NOTE: The university may have additional program-specific eligibility requirements. It is recommended to verify these on the official university website.
