Biochemical Engineering at Nanjing Tech University is an interdisciplinary engineering discipline that bridges biology, chemistry and process engineering to develop and optimise biological processes and products for industrial and healthcare applications. The programme focuses on the design, analysis and scale-up of bioprocess systems, integrating core concepts from microbiology, biochemical reaction engineering, bioseparation, bioreactor design, fermentation technology and downstream processing. Students learn how to apply engineering principles to biological systems — including enzyme catalysis, cell culture, metabolic engineering and bioproduct purification — with an emphasis on sustainable and efficient processes for producing biopharmaceuticals, biofuels, enzymes, food ingredients and other biologically derived materials.
