The Bachelor Programme 'Maritime Science and Technology' belongs to the L-28 Degree Class by Italian rules of the Ministry of the University and Research.

It is a scientific-economic academic program that embraces the IMO-STCW requirements for Officers. The Program consists of two curricula: the Deck Officer curriculum embraces the competences specified in sections A-II/1 and A-II/2, while the Marine Engineer and Electrotechnical Officer curriculum embraces the competences specified in sections A-III/1, A-III/2 and A-III/6 of the STCW Convention. The cultural roots of the University of Genova in the Maritime sector date back at least two centuries, the School of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers has been established in 1870 and the School of Economics has been established in 1885.
