The Department of Mathematics at POSTECH specializes in many areas of both pure mathematics and applied mathematics/statistics in its research and education. Despite its relatively small faculty size (22 full-time professors as of July 2013), the Department has combined in its research both traditional and fast-changing topics including number theory, commutative algebra, partial differential equations, harmonic analysis, numerical analysis, several complex variables, functional analysis, algebraic geometry, complex geometry, topology, graph theory, combinatorics, coding theory, cryptography, and statistics.
