Biomechatronic engineering is a compound word of bioengineering, mechanics, and electronics. It is a new interdisciplinary field of study that efficiently converges technology and knowledge in the fields of bioengineering, mechanical engineering, electronic engineering, and software engineering. Biomechatronic engineering will lead technological innovation to preserve human life in a healthy and prosperous environment and create more convenient living conditions in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution. The Department of Biomechatronic Engineering focuses on basic theory and applied education by dividing the topics under the major fields of BioICT and Smart Mechatronics.
The field of BioICT includes modeling and simulation of the human body structure and function, engineering analysis of human movement, design of rehabilitation systems, acquisition and analysis of biological signals including image signals, development of artificial organs and biomaterials, analysis of medical information, and diagnostic aid systems, etc. The field of Smart Mechatronics includes sensors and robot technologies for control and replacement of biofunctions, biosensors for monitoring and control of growing environments, automation and optimization of production, processing, and distribution, unmanned intelligent robots, and wireless remote control robot systems.
Career paths available to the graduates of the Department of Biomechatronic Engineering are very diverse based on a wide range of major courses that can be used in various industrial fields. In particular, the employment rate of graduates majoring in the Department of Biomechatronic Engineering over the past five years is 10% higher than the average employment rate of university graduates in Korea.
