Along with industry digitalisation, increasing technologies and computerised tools are developed to establish virtual mirror images of physical entities so that they are able to be applied for investigating the behaviours of their physical counterparts under various working conditions through simulations. A physical entity could be a structure, a component, a product, a process or even a system. Its virtual mirror image is called a model or a digital twin as long as the bidirectional communication between them is enabled. As a result, a significant amount of time and cost are exempted from creating the physical prototypes and conducting massive physical experiments. Accordingly heavy demands on high fidelity modelling and simulations emerge from the modern industry which is characterised by complex engineered and scientific systems.

Benefitting from the advancement of sensors, computational science and high-performance computing equipment, the modelling and simulation techniques are flourishing in terms of analytical, geometrical, multi-physics and data-driven manners. Combining with other techniques such as optimisation techniques and data analysis techniques, the physical entities of interest could be explored in a more comprehensive way than ever before. This programme will provide you with a solid foundation in multiple computational methods for the design, analyse, operation and maintenance of complex engineered and scientific systems.
