FinTech builds upon a core foundation of accounting and financial principles and models while learning how technology is enhancing Financial Services and Enterprise Finance. As technology (e.g., mobile, analytics, blockchain and artificial intelligence) becomes increasingly powerful and prolific, enterprises are leveraging these technologies to be more efficient, effective, and improving the customer experience. Examples include digital payments (e.g., Paypal, Venmo, Zelle), and wealth management (e.g., Betterment, SoFi, Fidelity Go).
The FinTech major includes classes in Foundations of FinTech, FinTech Economics and Business Models, Business Data Analytics, and Introduction to Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies. These courses describe how technology is being leveraged in Finance and Accounting disciplines. There are also numerous examples of Tech being applied to selling insurance (e.g., Lemonade) and monitoring health (e.g., Apple Watch).
