OUR HISTORY

Our history began in December 1949 with the establishment of the Shanghai Russian School affiliated to East China People’s Revolution University, as one of the earliest institutions where China’s higher education in foreign languages took shape. Its first president, Jiang Chunfang, is a renowned translator of Russian and publisher who pioneered the publication of The Encyclopedia of China.

Throughout its history, SISU has attracted and retained China's distinguished linguists, translators and philosophers with commitment to teaching and academic pursuits, including Professors Roland Fang Chong, Xu Zhongnian, Yan Disheng, Wang Dechun, Zhang Zhenbang, Li Guanyi, Yu Kuangfu and Xie Tianzhen, who have become part of the University’s increased wealth of intellectual resources.

Notes

To get to Shanghai International Studies University (SISU) from Shanghai's airports, you'll likely use Hongqiao Airport (SHA) (closer) or Pudong Airport (PVG) (major international hub); take the Metro (Line 2) to connect towards downtown areas near the Hongkou campus, or use taxis/ride-shares, with options like the Maglev (from PVG) for speed, then transfer to Metro lines or buses to reach your specific campus.

From Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (SHA) - Closer Airport

Metro: Take Metro Line 2 towards Pudong International Airport, get off at stations like Zhongshan Park or People's Square and transfer to reach areas near SISU's Hongkou campus (which is central) or Songjiang campus (further out).
Taxi/Ride-Share: Direct, but traffic can be heavy; around 30-50 mins to central areas.

From Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG) - Main International Airport

Metro (Line 2): Take Line 2 directly from the airport, connecting to various parts of the city; this is a cost-effective option.
Maglev Train: For speed, take the Maglev to Longyang Road Station, then transfer to Metro Line 2 or other lines towards SISU.
Taxi/Ride-Share: A long but direct journey to the city.

To SISU Campuses

Hongkou Campus: Located in downtown, so Metro lines connecting to central Shanghai (like Line 2) are best.
Songjiang Campus: Further out; you'll need to connect from the airport to a metro line that goes to Songjiang District (e.g., Line 9).
