Paris has a very typical architecture inherited by famous architect Haussmann. In order to preserve this heritage, the municipality has decided to restrain the height of Parisian buildings at a reasonable size. That is one of the reasons why the housing market is so saturated in Paris, and not only because it is a beautiful city!
Another reason is that Paris gathers a large number of higher education institution that attracts both French and foreign students. This year, the city welcomed 325 000 students, students that had to find a place to live. Most of them - 68%, chose to live inside of Paris and the rest in the suburbs. Keep in mind that suburbs are a good option, cheaper and just as well connected with public transportation as Paris. It can help you reduce considerably the accommodation budget.
Of course, every student - French or international, starts looking around the same time, so it obviously gets difficult. For this reason we recommend to get on the housing hunt early, so you will arrive to Paris relaxed and ready to start this amazing experience. Be patient, and do not give up!
